Day 101 of 2022

It was a Monday, for better or worse 😂. I got a lot of random stuffs done and avoided doing a lot of random stuffs.

The Verse

Been working on my second NFT collection and improving my Procreate skills. (find it here on OpenSea) I’ve got a couple other ideas that are zooming around in my head, including what to do with my latest domain name purchase (scrapt.art). What I had originally set out to do – create elements (clothes, shoes, accessories) for avatars, starting with Decentraland, is currently beyond my financial reach. It costs over $200 just to get a Name to make sure your content is secure and not lost in cyberspace (you can play with their creation system as a guest).

Not gonna lie – this whole metaverse thing is a shady scam being disguised as a hip new reality, partnered with a bunch of shady bankers with fake money (crypto, tokens). Okay, so maybe it’s not quite that bad, but it’s definitely not an easy and cheap new hobby to just jump into.

Meta just opened up a beta marketplace for select creators in Horizon Worlds. Like the idea, still can’t access it without the special gear. Also… holy crap does it sound like they have some major lack of moderation going on if you read the reviews found here. Yikes.

Virtual Reality – now that we are seeing the beginnings of the metaverse, stories about what that could look like in the future are cropping up all over the place. This bizarre comedy has people choosing to live “forever” in virtual worlds instead of just dying. It’s got some pretty crazy sh*t happening, including what these environments look like with corporate sponsors and the avatars being considered too dead/not real enough to earn their own income. It explores some pretty crazy concepts, is full of dark humor and is a pretty good sci-fi.

Learning about Bruce Willis’ aphasia diagnosis – really blew my mind. Everything makes sense now. I’m also pretty upset that his family and the people he works with didn’t step forward with this information sooner – because he should not have been “handled”, someone should have put a stop to this. Feeling super shitty for my view on his recent films – in which I just figured he had given up in terms of being a good actor. So, my apologies to you, Bruce. Going through what I did with my grandmother, I know it’s not an easy journey. You have so many people who love and support you and I’m happy that even though it’s late in the game, your family finally helped you make the choice to retire.

Etsy sellers are protesting fees this week. I have a running negative balance on Etsy, which some day may flip around to be in the green…I hope 😂 – basically I have decided to just keep on keeping on as I can’t really afford to close shop while so many crafters and artisans take to the streets in protest. Things change, it’s part of life. Fees increase, cost of food increases, cost of living increases. Shit happens. Etsy, as an entity, is a decent company as far as I can tell. Digging deeper into the controversy, yeah, sellers have some pretty good issues they are concerned about and I can agree with that.

I do some day want to explore why Etsy will give me a completely different set of numbers as compared to eRank, a sellers analyzing tool…According to eRank I never show up in searches yet Etsy tells me my advertising dollars are being put to use. Idk. eRank also says I’ve sold 72% more than other shops on Etsy, which worries me a bit, as I’ve only technically made 57 total sales, and the majority were from digital items that I don’t sell anymore. I’m willing to put in the work to continue rising to the top, but how could so many shops still be open with such horrible sales figures? Those are some sad numbers.

It’s all a bit of a mess…Etsy has made some major improvements, but I’m also silently standing with the protesters as it seems to me that more change, in favor of sellers, is needed.
