Look To The Future Pt 1
Module 1: Discover Your Why
“If we don’t make a conscious effort to visualize who we are and what we want in life, then we empower other people and circumstances to shape us instead.”
Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People ®
I’m going to ask you a hard question, and keep in mind that no one else will read your answer unless you share it, so be honest with yourself.
Q1. Why do you want to be a Twitch Streamer?
I ask this question for a couple of reasons. There is no right or wrong answer. However, what your end goal is will determine how much effort you’ll need to put into streaming and building your brand.
Now that you’ve written that down, you likely fall into one of three buckets:
- Streaming is a hobby.
- You hope to get rich quickly.
- It’s something you really enjoy, you want to turn it into a full time gig.
Let's dive into these buckets!
Streaming Is A Hobby
It’s easy to say that you are just streaming for fun and company.
- If that is 100% accurate, then streaming on Twitch is a hobby and any money earned will probably go back into your channel in the form of games or equipment.
- Negative Thinking: It’s easy to say that this is your reason but privately get bogged down in negative thinking if you aren’t reaching follower or sub goals. If this is something you struggle with, then you may fall into one of the other two categories - it’s time to level up your game with intention my friend!
You Hope To Get Rich Quickly
It’s easy to say this is your side hustle and secretly hope to get rich quick.
- The truth is getting rich quick is a myth (for most people). It takes most content creators a lot of hard work, many failures and learning to turn streaming into a full time career.
- According to Stream Scheme:
- Most full-time Twitch streamers have the potential to earn an average of between $3,000 to $6,500 per month. What is full-time and how much of that comes from Twitch or other avenues (think sponsorships, merch, etc.)?
- In addition, a survey of 5,000 smaller stream Affiliates found that 76% hadn’t reached the minimum payout yet. Congrats to those of you who have!
- And smaller streamers that were earning regularly stated that they make between $25 to $130 monthly.
- Realistically most streamers do not have large enough followings to make money through sponsorships, affiliate programs or merchandise.
- According to Stream Scheme:
- To get better results, it's important to be honest about your goals and intentional with your self-promotion. Simply going live without a plan is unlikely to attract a significant audience.
Love It, Let’s Go Full-Time:
This is possible! If you are passionate about streaming and if you are willing to put in the work to make it happen. It doesn't matter where you are on your journey - just starting out or if you've been doing it for awhile.
Discovering your Why is a big game changer, it will help you make it happen!
